Title: Intellectual Property Technologist Location: United States-Idaho-Boise Job Number:_xxxx834 Technologist/Subject Matter Expert This position is an Individual Contributor role for an IP Analyst / Technologist working on HP''s Intellectual Property Analysis team. This position''s primary focus is to provide analytical and strategic support for HP''s intellectual property licensing efforts. Team members utilize their technology and subject matter expertise to evaluate and analyze technologies, patents, and business intelligence to assist in generating business opportunities which create IP value through direct and indirect monetization as well as freedom of operation and defense. IP technologists work in a team environment with highly talented, business development professionals, patent and transaction attorneys, R&D architects and engineers. Scope * Applies advanced technical subject matter knowledge to complex IP-related business issues and is regarded as a technical subject matter expert. * Frequently contributes to the development of new ideas, methods and processes related to IP analysis. * Works on complex problems/projects where analysis of situations or data requires in-depth evaluation of multiple factors (technical and business related) * Exercises significant judgment to determine the best method for accomplishing work and achieving objectives. * Leads and/or provides expertise (predominately technical) to project teams and may participate in cross-functional initiatives. * Provides direction and guidance for process improvements and establishing policies. * Frequently represents the organization to internal clients and external customers. Responsibilities Members of HP''s Intellectual Property Analysis, Valuation and Strategy team work in a team environment alongside other technologists, business developers, patent and transaction attorneys to provide critical technical, analytical, and business intelligence support to the HP''s IP initiatives and strategies and value-creation motions. Education and Qualifications * Bachelor of Science degree in CS, EE, ECE or comparable technical discipline with 5 years of related industry experience. Advanced degrees are preferred. * Ability to work well with others and in building strong mutually supportive working relationships * Willingness and desire to learn and grow in intellectual property analysis acumen. * Expert-level technical understanding and/or subject matter expertise in the one or more of the following areas: - software and systems - server/computer architecture - networking software/hardware - enterprise router, switches - wireless networking protocols and implementations Useful education, knowledge and skills * Master of Science degree (or equivalent) in related area * Strong communication skills (written and verbal) * Experience in working with clients on technology and intellectual property. * Understanding and use of patent analysis tools with skill in IP search and analysis. * Experience in intellectual property filing and claim interpretation. * Patent agent registration and/or specific educational background in patents or intellectual property management.
